Week 5 Intarsia and Tartan

                                                        INTARSIA

Intarsia ia a method of knitting with a number of colours, in which a separate ball of yarn is used for each area of colour (opposed to different yarns being carried at the back of the work)

We learnt how to lay out an design to scale after mastering how to twist the yarns at the back of knitting

This method is very time consuming.  I prefer hand knitting this unless it is just a small isolated motif  or any very large motif with few colours.
The sample above I would do with an punch card, and paint in the orange or using  a slip or tuck stitch to get that effect.

PLAIDS OR TARTANS

Plaids was a lot of fun creating patterns and punch cards was also very challenging only 24 stitches.

Using Jacquard and changing colours as you would strip and alternation background and foreground
we created the following plaids.   We made the punch cards by only punching one line and setting it
on hold
